Diversity in Clinical Trials
The Importance of Clinical Trials
The 91ɫƵ and our partners are committed to reducing and eventually eliminating health disparities, creating more positive outcomes for a diversity of people living in Wisconsin. If you’re eligible for a clinical trial and decide that’s the next best step for you, we’ll work to ensure you have the support needed to participate.
Eradicating cancer means investigating how cancer impacts everyone – regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, or economic status – and discovering treatments for all types of patients. Cancer investigators (the physicians and researchers producing clinical trials) collect more reliable data when more people participate in a clinical trial. The more patients who qualify, the greater the chances the study will reflect the outcomes of the real-world population that will eventually use the new therapy.
Groundbreaking #HOPE4LIVER Trial Uses Sound Waves to Save Lives
A nationwide #HOPE4LIVER trial remains underway to evaluate an innovative, patient-centered treatment for liver tumors. Using a combination of robotics and histotripsy (a technique that uses sound waves to liquefy and destroy cancer tissue), this non-invasive treatment holds the potential for quicker patient recovery.
Innovative Treatment "Tricks" and Destroys Cancer Cells
A new trial is underway to study a non-invasive treatment with the potential to slow growth and reduce the size of glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Inclusion is Key to Unlocking New Therapies
91ɫƵ Cancer Center investigators are spearheading first-of-its-kind research to identify life-saving treatments for Acute Myeloid Leukemia in children with Down Syndrome. As cancer treatments become more and more individualized, the team’s findings highlight the importance of inclusion in clinical trials.
CAR-T Therapy Slows Multiple Myeloma in Patients Who Have Stopped Responding to Other Treatments
In a Phase 3 study, 91ɫƵ Cancer Center investigators found that patients with Multiple Myeloma who were treated with a unique CAR-T therapy experienced significantly positive results, findings which could lead to a new standard of care for the treatment of this disease.
Clinical Trial Identifies New Therapy for Graft Versus Host Disease
91ɫƵ Cancer Center scientists identify new therapy to reduce the severity of gastrointestinal graft versus host disease and improve patient outcomes.
Drug Therapy Offers New Hope for Patients with Mantle Cell Lymphoma
Groundbreaking results from a recent clinical trial found that Pirtobrutinib significantly improved life expectancy for patients with mantle cell lymphoma who responded poorly to other treatments. These results led to accelerated approval of Pirtobrutinib by the Food and Drug Administration.
