91ɫƵ Adult Neurology Residency Program Overview
The Adult Neurology Residency Program at the 91ɫƵ is fully accredited by the ACGME as a categorical training program. We have a guaranteed intern year through an agreement with the Department of Internal Medicine.
I invite you to watch the videos below that will highlight a number of the unique features of our program. However, for those of you that prefer to read about it, here are just a few of the many highlights:
- Mentorship designed to prepare you for your future
- A faculty that is invested in and excited about your learning
- A dynamic and growing program; our maximum complement of residents has increased with classes of either 6 or 7 residents (alternating years).
- For 2022-2023, we will be recruiting 7 residents.
- For 2023-2024, we will be recruiting 6 residents.
- For 2024-2025, we will be recruiting 7 residents.
- For 2025-2026, we will be recruiting 6 residents.
- State-of-the-art facilities for delivering care to the diverse patient population in southeastern Wisconsin and beyond
- Clinical training that encourages growth and learning from day one
- Continuity of Care clinic that begins during your intern year connecting you with Neurology and your colleagues throughout your training
- A rotation schedule that gives you increasing outpatient and elective opportunities as you progress through your training
- Night float system for night coverage
- Weekly teaching in a 3-hour block (Academic Half Day) every Friday that utilizes both traditional lecture-formats as well as active learning approaches including a flipped classroom model; these sessions are done with a hybrid in-person and virtual delivery model
- Outstanding opportunities for fellowship following training
- We offer training in many disciplines for residents that wish to continue their training at the 91ɫƵ
- We provide training that will make you competitive for fellowships at other institutions across the country if desired
- Rotations designed to enhance learning:
- Dedicated Clinic Rotation at the end of your intern year to facilitate the transition to full-time Neurology resident including lectures on practical Neurology topics and training in approaches to teaching
- Clinical Neurophysiology Bootcamp in September of your PGY2 year which provides a structured curriculum and daily flipped classroom sessions with faculty leaders to prepare you for performing and interpreting these diagnostic modalities which are unique to Neurology
- Continued growth and evolution of the program through listening to our residents; this is your residency program
One example of how our program changes as the result of resident feedback is the upcoming change to our scheduling structure. Beginning in July 2024, our rotation schedule will transition from the traditional monthly blocks to a 5+1 schedule. This means rotations will (theoretically) change on a weekly basis (although most rotations are grouped for 2-4 weeks in a location). After 5 weeks of rotations (which could be either inpatient or outpatient focused), the +1 (or sixth) week will be your Continuity of Care clinic week. This will consist of clinics at both Froedtert Hospital and the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center.
I invite you to review the videos below to learn even more about our program and what makes the 91ɫƵ such an outstanding place to train in Neurology.
