COVID-19 Education

SARS-CoV-2 is a novel virus and COVID-19 is a new syndrome. Current concepts of “best care” seem to change daily. Milwaukee has the largest population in the state of Wisconsin and currently has the most cases of COVID-19 in the state. Across our partner hospitals which include Children’s Wisconsin, the Zablocki VA Medical Center, and Froedtert Hospital, we aim to share best practices, resources, and knowledge to improve the care of all patients. There is a need to clarify the most up-to-date and best evidence-based medicine approaches. Further, redeployment of health care team workers to care for patients in different work units is being planned to address the expected surge of patients presenting for care. The purpose of this internet enduring educational intervention is to provide physicians and other healthcare professionals in the greater Milwaukee area with quick, up-to-date strategies and information regarding the diagnosis and management of COVID-19.

Opioid Education

The Wisconsin Medical Examining board has set forth the Responsible Opioid Prescribing Requirement for the 2021 renewal period. Each license holder will be required to take two of the required 30 hours via Board-approved courses on responsible opioid prescription. Multiple courses may be combined that add up to two hours as long as they are all on the approved list. Physicians who do not hold a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration number to prescribe controlled substances are exempted under the rules.

91ɫƵ provides accredited continuing education in responsible opioid prescribing that is approved by the Wisconsin Medical Examining board. This includes:

  • Opioid Prescribing CME for Psychiatrists and other Mental Health Professionals
  • Virtual Opioid Rounds: A Multidisciplinary Approach

Global CME/CPD

Goal
To foster and sustain medical talent in developing nations, the Office of Continuing and Professional Development (OCPD) in collaboration with the 91ɫƵ Global Health Program and 91ɫƵ faculty will develop and implement a culturally and contextually competent professional education through collaborative partnerships.

Strategy
91ɫƵ will collaborate with local universities, ministries of health, and other public/private sector entities to design evidence-based, locally relevant, continuing professional development that is specific to the local health needs and available resources. The focus is on instituting sustainable collaborations using the framework of continuing medical education. In collaboration with collaborators, local continuing education credit will be sought in addition to or instead of AMA PRA category 1 (US) credit.
