Biography
Joseph Cusick, MD, is recognized nationally for his work in a broad range of neurosurgical areas. The majority of his work concerns surgically treating neurovascular diseases such as aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations.
Patients with degenerative disease of the spine benefit from Dr. Cusick’s considerable clinical expertise and research interests in this area. His treatment of cervical spondylotic myelopathies and radiculopathies have been featured surgical work at the forefront of spinal instrumentation. He also has in-depth experience for degenerative disease of the thoracic and lumbar spine with emphasis upon the potential role of intervertebral therapies and the specific value of various procedures.
Dr. Cusick also offers special expertise in the neurosurgical treatment of brain tumors, especially pituitary tumors. In this aspect, his long-term involvement with pituitary tumors is shared with other experts in different fields (endocrinologist, radiation therapist, and neuroradiologist) to establish a neuro-endocrine group. Furthermore, he provides neurosurgical treatment, including epidural and infusion techniques, for a variety of pain problems-particularly facial pain. He works with a team of neurosurgeons, neurologists and neuroimaging specialists that provide complete care for these complicated conditions.
Dr. Cusick is a member of numerous scientific organizations, including a founding member of the International Society of Pituitary Surgeons, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He serves on the editorial boards of major journals and was the Chairman of the Research Committee for the Cervical Spine Research Society, has served on the Advisory Committee of the Clinical Research Center, and as Chairman on the Institutions Research Committee at the 91ɫƵ. Dr. Cusick is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. He is the author of over 100 peer reviewed scientific articles and twenty-three chapters regarding neurosurgical subjects.
