Why I chose 91ɫƵ: Having been a home medical student at 91ɫƵ I was able to experience the great environment for learning 91ɫƵ provides. The faculty are approachable and enjoy teaching, and the residents from the top down are a very close group that push each other to excel.
What 91ɫƵ has to offer a candidate: 91ɫƵ offers the ability for residents to become skillful surgeons in the operating room. The high case load of a level 1 trauma center allows early and often exposure to multiple different cases. A portion of your learning is also done at the VA hospital which is a great place to gain autonomy in the operating room. The residents also manage to find a healthy work-life balance with different group outings throughout the year to develop overall wellness.
What I like about living in Milwaukee: The location of the hospital is in a quiet neighborhood where it is easy to buy a home, while also being close enough to downtown where you can enjoy the busy lifestyle of the city. There are plenty of opportunities to go to professional sporting events, and in the summer it’s an exciting city with different cultural and musical festivals. There are also multiple lakes and rivers in the area for various outdoor activities.
