Biography
Hello! My name is Candace Smith, and I’m a proud product of Milwaukee, WI. I earned my bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in Chemistry from Cardinal Stritch University in 2016.
After graduation, I spent two years in a local histology laboratory, where I deepened my skills and appreciation for the non-clinical aspects of science and healthcare. I then transitioned to a role as a DNA technologist, where I worked for over two and a half years. It was during this time that I discovered genetic counseling, and I knew I had found my calling.
After nearly three years as a DNA tech, I embraced my passion for genetics by becoming a genetic counselor assistant in Hematology Genetics. This experience not only enhanced my understanding of genetic counseling but also highlighted the vital importance of patient stewardship. Throughout my undergraduate journey, I developed my knowledge and passion for healthcare and social advocacy through various volunteer and research opportunities.
In my spare time, I love traveling, enjoying delicious food (including custard, even in frigid temperatures—after all, that’s what a true Wisconsinite does!), and spending quality time with family and friends. I’m also a big fan of game nights!
I feel incredibly fortunate and excited to be part of Cohort #4! I’m committed to making 91ɫƵ and the MSGC program proud.
