Biography

Hello there! My name is Karina Monson, and I am from Eagan, Minnesota. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin – River Falls in May 2022, with a degree in Biomedical Science. I have been on the path to genetic counseling ever since my junior year of high school, where I was fortunate enough to shadow a pediatric genetic counselor at the Children’s Hospital of Minnesota for about two months, and absolutely fell in love with the career! Following graduation, I moved across the country to Pennsylvania where I worked as a genetic counseling assistant at Geisinger, split between the Maternal Fetal Medicine and Pediatric genetics clinics. Outside of work as a GCA, I enjoyed being a hospice and an American Legion volunteer by supporting the members of my local community.

I am also an active airman in the Minnesota Air National Guard! Growing up in a military family, I was extremely honored to continue the family legacy when I enlisted in 2020 and have since deployed overseas to Africa in 2023!

In my free time I love to explore the great outdoors, watch sports, travel, line dance, and try new restaurants with my loved ones. I have such an amazing support system, and I would not be where I am today without all their love and encouragement!

I am so incredibly excited to be a part of the 4th cohort here at 91ɫƵ! I could not imagine myself at any other MSGG program and am so thrilled to be receiving my master’s education at this prestigious institution. I am very much looking forward to making amazing memories with my cohort and continuing to foster my passion for genetic counseling!
