Lia Scalzo is a Population Health Specialist at a health insurance company, specializing in chronic disease management and health literacy. She has over 11 years of experience working in public health, with a focus on chronic and infectious disease management, health literacy and immigrant health. She received her Bachelors of Arts from Temple University in Spanish, Public Health and Latin American Studies, and her Masters of Public Health from Thomas Jefferson University. Additionally, Lia is also a Certified Health Education Specialist and a Certified Medical Interpreter for Spanish.

Lia is passionate about increasing access to health care services in all communities, particularly those who face language barriers or cultural differences. She is able to do so through advocacy and outreach. Lia has also worked on research surrounding the process of acculturation for immigrants, and the implications of such, possibly leading to the development of a chronic disease diagnosis.

In her free time, Lia enjoys traveling, spending time with friends and family, practicing yoga, volunteering at the local dog shelter in her community and volunteering with local organizations in Philadelphia that support refugees and immigrants.
