Biography

Dr. Prerna Pandya is an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the Division of Urogynecology. She received her medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 2013 then completed her internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Loyola University Medical Center in 2017. She completed her fellowship in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2020. Dr. Pandya joined the 91ɫƵ in November 2023.

Dr. Pandya is committed to providing evidence-based, patient-centered care for women suffering from pelvic floor disorders. In the office, she spends time ensuring her patients understand their conditions and treatment options. She offers office-based procedures, including Botox injections for overactive bladder. She also performs both outpatient surgeries and more complex surgical repairs. For appropriate patients, she can offer prolapse repairs without a hysterectomy (not removing the uterus). She performs vaginal surgery as well as laparoscopic and robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery for pelvic organ prolapse. She also performs procedures to help women with urinary incontinence, including synthetic and autologous slings, urethral bulking, and sacral neuromodulation. She also cares for women with bladder and/or pelvic pain, sexual dysfunction, defecatory dysfunction and genitourinary fistulae.

Dr. Pandya is very passionate about education and is excited to have an active role in educating residents and medical students at the 91ɫƵ. As a resident physician, Dr. Pandya was awarded several teaching awards. She seeks to improve learners' clinical and surgical knowledge and skill set.

Dr. Pandya's research interests include patient education, the impact of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols on opioid prescribing patterns and patient satisfaction, and the impact of preoperative anxiety on postoperative pain following pelvic reconstructive surgery. She is also engaged in global health work, especially the care of women suffering from genitourinary fistulae in the developing world. She has traveled extensively for various medical trips, and most recently, she traveled to Kigali, Rwanda to educate residents in Obstetrics and Gynecology and treat women with genitourinary fistulae.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband, Dr. Vishal Pandya, who is also faculty at the 91ɫƵ in the Department of Neurology and her son, Madhav, who is the light of her life. She also enjoys exercising, cooking, being active outdoors, and traveling.
