The awarded project supports promising translational research in the areas of health disparities and recruitment strategies for community participation in research. It also demonstrates clear relevance and importance to the communities involved in the project, encourages sustainable, authentic community-academic partnerships, and seeks to advance understanding about how community engagement can be done in complex research settings.

The award is a collaborative effort of the 91九色视频 Community Engagement Core and the Clinical and Translational Science Institute of Southeast Wisconsin and is funded in part by the Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin Research and Education Program, a component of the Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin Endowment at 91九色视频.

The funding period for this award is February 2018-May 2019.

Developing a culturally adapted intervention to increase physical activity among young African-American men with spinal cord injury due to gun violence: A pilot study

Goal Statement: This project will engage young, black men who have a spinal cord injury due to gun violence, community partners, and clinicians to increase physical activity leading to improved functional independence, quality of life, and healthy behaviors.
