91ɫƵ Emergency Medicine Resident Research

Research in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the 91ɫƵ is both nationally and locally funded. We have physician faculty who are leading national research projects specializing in injury, cardiac arrest, EMS, among other areas.

Under the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requirements, Emergency Medicine Residency programs must provide a curriculum that advances residents’ knowledge of the basic principles of research, including how research is conducted, evaluated, explained, to patients, and applied to patient care. Our Resident Research Curriculum includes three main areas of education:

Conference Lectures: regarding study design, biostatistics and special topics in emergency medicine research

Journal club: every other month which includes real-world discussion and application of study results

A scholarly research project: Each resident will complete a scholarly activity research project prior to graduation. We have numerous resources and mentors to assist with this requirement. The residency research project requires:

  • A mentored scholarly project guided by a focused research question and includes data collection or secondary data analysis.
  • Oral or poster presentation of project results at least one public forum, including a local, regional or national conference, or the annual Wisconsin Emergency Medicine Research Forum
